More Romantech Character Development

by Matt Romantech on August 8, 2009

For now and for the next few years, my character is 30ish and desperate to fulfill his dreams of being taken seriously in music and business, and after many torrid episodes finally settles down with the woman of his dreams . . .

This is my “motivation”. My narrative, My character.

I’m just this short guy, this little battler, who’s crazy with crazy ideas and dreams. My name is Matt and I run a marketing business called Kurb. I’m also a DJ and producer called Romantech and I dress up as a pirate and tell stories to little kids. These elements form a narrative triangle into which general, ongoing and somewhat abstract  plot ideas unfold.

The powdered tiger penis will be a reoccuring abstract concept that basically represents – or personifies my online business.

The powdered tiger penis is treated as if it’s a lucrative and powerful drug that “makes you a samurai in the bedroom and the boardroom”. Really it represents my more “fringe” online business activities that obviously have ongoing potential to create significant income.

Most of the representations of my “marketing” service would also be ridiculous and I would hope to feature a different client on my show each time, with me suggesting a ridiculous marketing strategy.

So it’s never explained what my business does exactly other than “marketing and promotions”.

The stuff that we don’t explain I think is also a powerful concept. The fact that I’m a DJ, the fact that sometimes I appear as a Pirate, unless the audience digs deeper it will just be absurd.

Eventually I want to establish a new exclusive and random song to accompany each episode, featuring cast members performing a song or possibly featuring a guest.

But really, it torments me how hard doing this kind of episodic content appears to be.

4 years now going on about doing this shit.

I know that motivation is the biggest part so if I keeep writng this stuff hopefully it will happen. Just have to turn the camera on and go . . .

But I like to write this stuff out in the hope it will get me moving.

The next few years aren’t going to be easy.
