There are only certain places you want to play on a Friday or Saturday because there are many places to play on a Wednesday, Thursday or even a Sunday so when you play on a Friday or Saturday you want to make it good.
You don’t want to play Queenstown, Wanaka, Franz Josef on a Friday or Saturday, because you get the same money and the same crowd. There’s no point.
So you got two lists, places you can get paid not on friday or saturday which is:
Queenstown
Wanaka
Franz Josef
Christchurch
And places that are worth playing on a Friday or Saturday
Invercargill
Christchurch
Dunedin
Possibly Timaru
Oh and also places worth playing just for the vibe:
Oamaru
Lyttleton
So you’ve got 2 pools from which to draw 4 dates. Which is good because it gives you options, but you can also try and be practical by cutting down driving. Flying into queenstown that way . . .
God I’m having tour fantasies again sheesh. I mean really. I gotta get back to reality. I got things to do. We can talk about this some other time.
But y’know in the North Island you’ve got to remember there’s only gas and accommodation to pay for – no extra vehicle expenses, or flights . . . Look, it’s not about making money, or having gigs that go off, obviously. It’s just not that easy. It’s about actually doing it. That’s important to being a real musician, that makes real music. Anyway.
