Romantech News Updateski Season

Quick romantech round up:

• “Tough Love” Mix CD’s are flying out, they’ll be at 7 cafe, Grey Lynn, some other places, UPfm lobby in symonds st., probably put some downin Handmade burgers, people beats movement . . .

• There are artistic vibes about. Darcy and Shane are doing their film “Godspell”, Scott and Harry are moving to Westport to fish and write beats, Chris from Timaru is making “3beat” and “threefixing”, there are other people around too. Just been running around, seeing stuff, and I want to be in with the art that’s happening, not where the art isn’t happening and dudes are just lying around.

• DJ Asides has been staying and it’s been an opportunity to see and learn - samples, mixing, production, songwriting, picking up little bits of stuff.

• The gigs have not been going well recently. I’m over it, I’ll still be keen to perform but I don’t want to pursue too actively because I want to more real art stuff.

I don’t know what updateski season is if it’s not this blog post, but we’ve got a whole lot of updates, so there’s stuff, and I’m talking about it.

What’s the news? Well I guess, I’ve decided to put the foot down and stand up for real art. This year I was dillying and dallying and wondering and wandering  and not getting anything done, but once the money started coming in from business again I snapped back.

And now I feel i’m confident to quit messing around and just follow the direction of the real art.

So down to the updateskiing . . .

Hey yo been a little while since I posted on the romantech blog but I have been writing heaps, just not posting it, because I’m pretty happy with the strategy of using my therapuetic writing sessions for marketing purposes.

It’s kind of complicated unless you know about internet marketing, so I won’t go into it, but it also meant less whinging on my blog – because, as I said, I blog for therapeutic reasons, which often means lots of analyzing problems – which often sounds exactly lke moaning and complaining – and I don’t know if I want to represent that vibe on my blog, that I just worry and complain all the time.

But I am pretty sure I’m in transition now, to a new standard of lifestyle and although I’m grateful for everything it’s time to star prioritizing and really living artfulness in new ways.

I’ve seen enough and I accept my shortcomings, until I have options I will have to continue to play to my strengths, in fact almost be dictated to only engaging in areas and strategies that favour my natural terrain.

I can make a lot of densely melodic beats and I’m getting faster. I just need to keep doing that and then my only problem becomes about when I want to spend the money getting the appropriate mastering done.

I’ll still want to put out a couple of mixes each year I reckon so I will need a budget for that.

Otherwise I don’t know about the gigs. Well I need to be committed to growth and development, otherwise I’m not happy.

And if i’m not happy well that sucks. Why be unhappy when the happy option exists? Because it’s hard to be happy? Because people, in general, are never happy?

Well sure, but that doesn’t mean not to try. I see it there within reach. I don’t know about you, but I’m reaching. And it’s not nice to be slapped down and that’s what I’m finding with drum and bass.

If you keep reaching and getting slapped down, it becomes demoralizing, something isn’t right.

I will always do my tunes, but I’m not going to put on parties if they don’t make me feel good, because I believe in gaining strength and momentum. I know this is how I work.

Initiative and momentum on the front foot is everything.

So what about gigs? I can’t fall into the trap of thinking I can do it by myself. What’s the point of even having gigs if the scene isn’t behind you?

I’d raher just have shoots and if they turn into parties then all good. I’d rather do something I’m inspired by and if it catches on then all good, if not, oh well. If you’re just jumping on some bandwagon or aiming for something false then of course you’ll be disappointed when you fail.

If it’s real, you’ll just be more determined than ever.
