I would really need to build a base of support from one end, and build the solid gigs from another.
I need the solid contacts with the bar owners and promoters, but that will only come from good gigs and good reputation, which all comes down to establishing myself online as a force unto myself.
It’ll feed each other but I need a good kick off, so building my online support steadily should hopefully do that.
For which I’ll need good material.
Good material leads to good support, leads to good gigs, leads to developing a permanent tour lifestyle.
But earning money means I can keep going, and building.
I could do a 3 x 2 hours service for $1000, pirates in the morning at the local school, online marketing after lunch, and then a performance that night.
Or if it was a friday, line each one up and try to get $300 for each thing seperately.
If it was a saturday you’d just have to shift the model by which you collect. You’d have to be super adaptable – have a month out plan, a week out plan, and a day out plan. Maybe go out straight hustling, dressed as a pirate, designing websites with video on the spot, and touting all my services.
Well if you’ve got the money, everythings going to work out.
But the websites would get more action anyway, through my activity, and would make more money, and create more opportunities.
Get me more fans, get me in touch with people who will give me a place to stay and hook up gigs and things for me.
Or even give me wider attention so that people want to book me, and venues know 50 people will show up if I play. I could sell stuff, y’know, it will get easier as I go from hustler to bona fide underground star, not because of my talents but because people are part of the journey through my hustling, business, and my web promotion.
Why would I need sponsorship from some energy drink or something if just the fact I was travelling around meant I was making an extra $500 through my printing and discs and stuff, and then I just had to show up 3 times a week and make $500??? I could still sell ads to companies if they dare think of sponsoring my site, maybe overseas people will be into it and start buying my stuff.
But yes, first I have to build support, and book the decent gigs 6 weeks out and then build little things around it.
definitely would want some bases in the centres so I could drive home after gigs.
But first I need to build a list of contacts.
I’m excited about getting my bass and hitting the road as this crazy pirate, DJ, marketing guy who can do CD and DVD copying right there on the spot, and fly in cheap printing from auckland like an airstrike.
Sure my business wouldn’t run as efficiently as in auckland, but I would make up for it by wangling new deals for cd dvd duplication and printing, and getting marketing relationships going on around the country.
I can still do my online music marketing on the road, and I’d have people here in auckland taking care of other stuff, as I would also be hustling some trade wherever I go.
